While I was reading the Fast Company article ‘The Lost Steve Jobs Tapes‘ this morning on my way to work, this quote really struck me:
Steve Jobs, 1998:
I don’t really believe that televisions and computers are going to merge. I’ve spent enough time in entertainment to know that storytelling is linear. It’s not interactive. You go to your TV when you want to turn your brain off. You go to your computer when you want to turn your brain on. Those are not the same thing.
Contrast the above sentiment with the more popular Steve Job’s quote about the need for market research:
It’s not the consumers’ job to know what they want.
Just something to ponder- is it consumer behavior that pushes new technologies to market, or do companies push new behaviors on consumers? 😉
