Happy 1st Birthday, JustAllie!

Personal October 30, 2011 7:45 pm

I can’t believe it, but my baby blog is 1 today! 🙂

I started blogging last year as a creative outlet- a way to express all the random thoughts in my head.  JustAllie has proved to be so much more than a creative outlet- I still can’t believe the amazing opportunities I’ve had because of this baby blog!

– In a roundabout way, I met my buddy Jason because of JustAllie (it’s a long story that I won’t bore you with- if you’re a friend, you already know it anyway!) 🙂

– I’ve had the amazing opportunity to be a contributing blogger for Advertising Week– I’m so lucky to be a part of such an amazing community!

– I’ve made a small dent in my mission ‘to show the advertising world research nerds can be creative thinkers’- back in December 2010 my thoughts on what ‘The Most Important Advertising Trend in 2011’ would be surprisingly WON a contest sponsored by McCann NY, and back in July 2011, the agency Mr. Youth’s blog, GrownUpThinking.com, linked to MY content.

–  And I’m still pinching myself over the fact Yahoo! asked ME to write an article for them. Wowza!

Yep, pretty big smile on my face when I think about all of the doors JustAllie has helped open.  But don’t get me wrong- blogging is hard work.

I’ve learned I absolutely LOVE to write, but that I’m not what you would call a ‘natural’ writer.  Most blog posts take me at least 3 hours to write, if not longer.  And I’ve learned blogging takes dedication- sometimes the last thing I want to do after work is sit down and write, especially since most nights I don’t get home from work/happy hour/gym, etc. until after 8:30pm.  I’d love to get to the point where I’m able to post multiple times a week (and I’ll get there one day!), but for now dedicating myself to blogging once a week is my goal.

I’ve learned not to associate ‘success’ with page views.  A reality check- JustAllie isn’t a high traffic blog.  I’d love it if JustAllie was a ‘success’ in traffic terms- my pipe dream is to one day get paid to write my thoughts- but I’ve learned I’m really blogging for myself.

I’ve learned that writing helps me focus my thoughts. This may sound silly, but I think blogging has made me ‘smarter’ and more ‘aware’ of the world around me.  And that’s more valuable to me right now than lots of page views!

Lately I’ve been comparing myself to ‘The Little Engine That Could’- I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.  I think JustAllie has had a pretty great 1st year- I’m definitely hooked on blogging, but I have a LOT of work ahead before JustAllie reaches its full potential 🙂

Now to get really sappy (hey, it’s my blog’s birthday, and I’ll do what I want)- THANKS for reading!  I’m so humbled people other than my parents would be interested in what I have to say! 🙂

And just for kicks, a link to my very first post!
